A Time to Arrive:
Hattie Mae Johnson Harris was born on December 15, 1924 in Cabarrus County, NC to Ozzell Johnson and Augusta Houston Johnson.
A Time to Learn:
Ms. Harris was educated by the Cabarrus County School System. She saw the need to further that education, so she returned to school, attending CPCC, where she became a Certified Nursing Assistant. Earning what is equivalent to an Associates Degree now, she did all of this while continuing to work full-time and being a full time mother.
A Time to Work:
In her younger years, Ms. Harris was employed at John's Laundry for more than 30 years. Once she became a Certified Nursing Assistant, she work in the hospital, nursing homes and on private duty for many years. She had a love and passion for the care of seniors and children. In her own words-she loved it and gave God her best!
A Time to Serve the Community:
Ms. Hattie Harris was an avid community activist. She sat on community boards such as the CW Williams Health Center and worked with a dozen different community organizations as a President of Fairview Homes and Eleanor Heights. The objective for her and the other leaders was change. They took it upon themselves to help those in some humbling living conditions, know their rights. Working with Legal Aid and the Housing Authority, Ms. Harris was part of major changes that are being enjoyed today. As she begin to mature in age, Ms. Harris became a She ministered through the Praise Dance and African Drum Teams as a member of the McCrorey YMCA. She would later join Stradford Richardson YMCA building more relationships.
A Time to Serve the Lord:
Affectionately called "Mother" Harris, she was a very active member of Chappell Memorial Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Pastor's Aide where she later became an Honorary Member. Mother Harris enjoyed singing and was the eldest member of the Unite Voices until health no longer allowed her to go up the steps. She quickly joined the Hymn Choir to continue singing for the Lord. She also enjoyed Sunday School with discussion and words of wisdom shared. She was a steward, missionary and intercessor for and to many. Prayer and spending time with the Lord daily was a must in her daily walk.
A Time for Family:
Ms. Harris loved her family and made every way for each of her children and grandchildren to succeed in life. She did exactly what Proverbs 22:6 directs- "Train up the child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart form it." She was not only a mother and grandmother to her biological children but she was the same to and for many, many others. Mother Harris was a people lover and her family extended far beyond who she birth from her womb.
A Time to Move On:
II Corinthians 5:8 says "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord (KJV). Mother/Grandmother Hattie Harris joined her heavenly father on December 17, 2020.
Ms. Harris leaves to cherish and adore her memories two daughters, Angela Heron (Barringtion) and Catherine Williams (James) both of Charlotte, NC. Three grandchildren: Tracy Harris (Tomeka) of Salisbury, NC., Amanda Wilson and Miriam Hammond, both of Charlotte, NC. Two Great grandchildren: Trinitee and Tyriq Harris, Salisbury, NC. One sister Lena Connor of Rocky Mount, NC and a special Grandson-Jeren Gilliam. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and all who considered her mother and friend.
