Elder Hazel Hill (Chance) was born on May 18, 1930, was the youngest of six children to Deacon William Corbett and Mother Mary Frances Chance of Fairfield, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on February 23, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

From an early age, Hazel embraced her faith in Jesus Christ, being baptized at Star Zion Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in Fairfield. She received her education in the Hyde County School system, excelling academically while studying by an oil-burning lamp. Though awarded a scholarship to Shaw University in Raleigh, Hazel chose to postpone her college education to assist her family by seeking employment in the North.

It was in the North that she reunited with her childhood friend, the late Brother Asie E. Hill. Their union lasted over fifty-four years and bore six children, all raised in Newark, NJ.

Elder Hill was a faithful, committed, and dedicated servant in the United Fellowship Assembly (UFA). She served as the Vice President of the UFA Union, Chairperson of UFA Council Board, Advisor to UFA Missionary Circle, Chairperson of the Constitution & Bylaws Committee, teacher, and preacher. On October 4, 2020, Elder Hill was honored by Bishop Eugene Lee with a plaque for being the oldest Elder in the UFA having been ordained since 1984.

Her dedication within the church led to numerous opportunities, including becoming the first female member of the General Council Board, appointed by former General Bishop MacDonald Moses. After years of physically serving the church community in 2021, she relocated to Charlotte, NC, alongside her eldest, daughter, Frances. Mother Hill was never far from ministry and missionary duties. She continued to work with the United Fellowship Assembly, under the leadership of Bishop Eugene Lee as an advisor.

Known as Elder "Mother" Hill to her church family and simply as Mom and Grandma Hazel to her own, Hazel's legacy extends beyond her church and community involvement. She instilled in her family the importance of family values and prioritizing God above all else.

Hazel is survived by children: daughters Frances and Elder Phyllis of North Carolina; sons Michael (Loretta) of Oklahoma, Mark (Mikhail), and David of New Jersey; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Asie E. Hill; son, Larry D. Chance (Eliza); parents, William Corbett, and Mary Frances Chance; sisters Carrie Simpson and Eunice Reese; and brothers William and John Chance.
