Helen Davis-Sellars, 82 of Charlotte, passed away on Saturday January 04, 2020 at her residence.  She was born May 25, 1937 to the late Dan Davis (Bankie) and Texie Mack-Davis (Tonucy) in Orangeburg County, South Carolina.

Helen was the youngest of five siblings; two sisters, Neather Shaw, Lurine Small, and two brothers, Deacon Samuel Davis, Sr. and Lucky Martin, Jr., all of whom have preceded her in death.

Helen confessed Christ as her personal savior at an early age.  She was a member of Greater Zion Baptist Church in Bronx, NY from November 10, 1967 until October 2004.  She was a devoted member of the church building fund until relocating to Charlotte, NC.  She became a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in 2010, where she attended services regularly until her health no longer afforded her the ability to attend.

Helen attended Roberts High School in Orangeburg County, South Carolina.  There, she met and married Francis Sellars and they remained married for 36 years up until the time of his passing in August 1990.  To this union, four daughters and two sons were born. Two of their daughters, Jerlein Sellars-Goodwin and Gail Sellars, also preceded her in death.  As a mother, she loved her children unselfishly, and cherished her grands just as much.

Helen's love for children guided her into daycare in 1981.  She provided a loving and safe environment for the children she cared for in the comfort of her home.  These children quickly became extended grandchildren, and some have remained in her life until her death.

"Momma," as we affectionately called her, was a quiet, humble but stern woman most of her life.  She believed in speaking the truth.  If you asked, she gave it to you straight with love.  With the onset of her illness, we saw her strength and faith prevail to the upmost.  She was the epitome of a virtuous woman who will be greatly missed by many.

Left to cherish her memory are four children, Rudine Sellars of Charlotte, Shirley Sellars of Bronx, NY, Ricky Sellars of Bronx, NY and Tyrone Sellars of Charlotte; one daughter-in-law, Amy Sellars of Charlotte; one son-in-law, Ervin (Jerry) Goodwin of South Carolina; one step-son, Larry Haynes of South Carolina; ten grandchildren, Nakia Jackson (Robert) of Charlotte, Tanya Cummings (James) of New Jersey, DeAnquan Goodwin of South Carolina, Sean Reddick of Charlotte, Jamaal Goodwin (Chucquella) of South Carolina, Jarron Goodwin (Lindsey) of South Carolina, Ijavin Sellars of New Jersey, Brittany Goodwin of South Carolina, Darius Johnson of Charlotte, Kelley Sellars of Charlotte; six great-grandchildren, Jamaal Nazir Goodwin, Jada Goodwin, Kameron Goodwin and Jameer Goodwin all of South Carolina, Matthew Jackson and Troi Jackson, both of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
