On Friday, April 7th, 2023, Henry Mack Funderburke III departed this life and was called to his heavenly home at the age of 72. He was best known by family and friends as "Bro". Henry was born on August 29th, 1950, to the late Henry Mack Funderburk Jr. & Ruby Selena Maxwell Funderburk, he was the fifth of eight children.
Henry was educated in the Charlotte – Mecklenburg School system at Morgan & Billingsville Elementary Schools and was a graduate of the 1968 class of Myers Park High School. In 1969 he became a member of the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 3 years before working at the American Red Cross from 1976 to 2005 when his health declined, and he retired.
Henry loved to play golf, cook, mow his grass on his riding mower and some would say he missed his calling as a comedian because he enjoyed making people laugh and being the life of the party.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Mack & Ruby Selena Maxwell Funderburk Jr.; siblings, Veronica Gale Massey, Ruby Delores "Lois" Staten, Kenneth Maxwell Funderburke, Wanda Diane Hooper & Glenn Jose Funderburk; nephew, Ellis "Dock" Hooper and niece, Kimberly Selena Funderburk.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 51 years Emily P. Funderburke; two children Desmond L. Funderburke (Nicole) and Crystal B. Funderburke; four grandchildren, Kalyana Funderburke, Makayla Funderburke, Cameron White and Preston White; two siblings, sister Terry F. Blackwell and brother Vaudrey K. "Fox" Funderburke (Tamiko); sisters-in-law, Dorothy Funderburke, Laura Funderburk and Sheila Funderburke; brother-in-law, Joseph Massey; uncle, Earl Maxwell (Pecola); aunt, Joyce Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
