Obituary

Mr. Jacob Crawford Gibson, 79 of York, SC, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020.  He was born May 29, 1940 to the late Jake and Lena Crawford Gibson.

Jacob was known to some as Jake and JC.  He was known to his children as Papa.  To his community, he was known as "The Mayor."

Jake was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James, Ben, Joseph and Raymond; one sister, Dorothy; and one daughter, Alicia.

Jake was someone who never met a stranger.  He was funny, humorous and had an all around great personality.  He loved children and would express it by acts of love and kind gestures.  He loved giving gifts to children and seeing the joy and smiles it brought to their faces.  He displayed this kindness at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and Friendly Hill Baptist Church.   Pleasant Grove was the last church that he called home.

Jake attended and graduated from Reid High School in Belmont, Class of 1958.  He developed many friendships during the time that continued right up to the time of his death.

Left to cherish and honor Jake is his loving wife and soulmate, Brenda Tate Gibson; four daughters, Alisha Shannon (Thomas), Jennifer Gibson, Belinda Hooey (the apple of his eye), all of Detroit, MI and Jasmine Wharton of Atlanta, GA; three sons, James Dulaney, III (Hanunah) of Columbia, SC, Jamar Gibson of Detroit, MI and Stephen Clark (April) of East St. Louis, IL; granddaughters, Lynnbsha', Brittany, Jada, Asya, Hadiyah, Sanaa, and four others; grandsons, Avery, Tristan, Stephen, Jr.; great-grands, Chase, Jericho, Lundyn, August; two sisters, Betty Guinn of Charlotte, NC, Gertrude Gibson of Mt.
