James Williams Barnes was born on September 9, 1947 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He departed this life on Saturday, May 14, 2022. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elvira, father, William; brothers, George, Melvin and Calvin, sister, Yvonne; and loving companion, Minnie.
He was a man who kept you laughing all the time with his funny jokes, his great big smile, and the funny words that he would say-"Yep, Yay" Who De Whoooo", "I Need Thee", and we knew exactly what he meant. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.
James was employed by the United States Postal Service for twelve years. He also worked in catering with McCarroll's Catering for over fifteen years. He loved to cook everyday; he made everything from scratch including homemade cornbread, dressing, greens, and macaroni and cheese, as well as other dishes.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Felicia Shipp, whom he dearly loved; grandchildren, Shakia, Shamya, Shanetta, and Shiodon Shipp; great-grandchildren, A'Journi Shipp, A'jai Sapp; nieces, Verikida Gibbs, Terra Hopkins, Destiny Walker, and Lisa Gillespie; nephew/son, Totlando Gibbs, nephew, Demontri McNealy; sister, Robin Brown; brother, Eddie McNealy; sisters-in-law, Hattie McNealy and Veronia Gibbs; devoted friends and family members, Leroy Walker, Kevin Stover, and Erva Summers and a host of loving great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends.
