James Junior Bess was born December 26, 1943, in Martin County, Robersonville, North Carolina, to the late Lillian Blanch Bess and James Alander Bess.  He passed away on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Atrium Health University Hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina.

James received his education in the public school system of Robersonville, North Carolina. He worked in construction for over 50 years between Crowder Construction Company and Blythe Construction Company.  James developed and maintained many lasting friendships during his construction career.

James loved to fish, especially with his nephews.  He tried to never leave a fishing outing without a catch.  He also enjoyed playing pool and dancing; he was a joy to be around.  James was a very skilled auto mechanic and handy man around the house.  He was willing to help others every chance he could.  James was dearly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Bess, Alberta Perkins, Mary Wilson, Annie Gills and John James.

Left to cherish his memories are four daughters, Precious Bess (caretaker), Jamie Chambers, Tangie Bess, Beverly Richardson (Richard); grandchildren, Mario Saldana, Prentice Bess, Teondra Bess, Damarion Bess, Arsenio Richardson, Sharika Richardson, and DeAndre Richardson; ex-wife, Peggy Goodwine; a best friend of over 30 years, Roy Walker; and a host of step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends from his community and also from Crowder Construction Company and Blythe Construction Company.
