Obituary

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 (KJV)

James Henry Brown, III, was born to James and Betty Drones Brown on December 30, 1970 in Midland, Texas.  James, or Jim as he was affectionately called, was the second of four children.

Jim dedicated his life to Christ in 1976 and joined Mount Rose Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.M. Knapp in Midland, TX.

In addition to being an avid sports fan, Jim was a member of the track and field and football teams at Permian High School and Midland Lee High School.  In his youth, he attended the Boys & Girls Club of America. He also enjoyed swimming, basketball, bike riding, and volunteering. Jim attended the University of North Texas on a football scholarship and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and General Management.  His love and passion for football took him to the game's highest level when he became a member of the Houston Oilers in 1993 before injury forced him from the game he loved so dearly.

Jim spent most of his teenage years with his grandmother, Ada Mae Smith.  Jim enjoyed the lessons, laughter, and responsibilities bestowed upon him by his grandmother.  Their bond was solidified, in part, by her cooking and his love for food.

The combination of Jim's humor and professionalism made him a joy to be around.  His comedic spirit would have those in his presence laughing for days.  Everyone he encountered was a friend and they often spoke of how he inspired them through the briefest of encounters.  He had a smile that would light up Texas, and was always willing to help anyone that called on him without hesitation or limits.

Jim was a self-described simple man. He loved to work, converse with family, and sit around at home.  Recently, he developed an appreciation for scenic drives and walks in the park. He was happy knowing everyone was well.

Jim was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 after a brief illness at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. At the time of his demise, Jim was living in Charlotte, NC and was a valued team member of the Stericycle family of companies.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Betty Brown, and brother, Clemmie R. Brown.

He leaves to cherish his memories: children, Mr. Chaddrick S. Brown, Garland, TX; Miss. Chandler M. Brown, Garland, TX; Mr. Chase Greene, Denver, CO; Miss Chianne N. Brown, Charlotte, NC; brother, Frank Brown, Arlington, TX; sisters Lynetta Khan, Houston, TX and Ada L. Brown, Denver, CO, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
