James Edward Cox was born on September 8, 1935 to Jessie Cox and Rosie Lee Lake in Wadesboro, North Carolina. He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.

Mr. Cox attended school in Wadesboro, NC. His favorite subject was history. He often dreamed of "bright lights and big cities," travelling to far away places and was blessed to be able to travel the world. He enjoyed the sport of boxing and one of his favorite matches was "Rumble in the Jungle" in Zaire on October 30, 1974 between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman.

Mr. Cox's employment included the Pennsylvania Steel Mill and Merita Bakery from which he retired. Not one to sit still very long, he worked part-time at Charlotte Douglas International Airport until his health began to decline.

Preceding him in death, his father, Jessie Cox, mother Rosie Lee Lake, his sister Lillie Mae Cox-Tanner, his brothers Fred Cox, Robert Cox, June Cox, and Will Cox, Jr. Survivors include his sister Annie Rosetta Cox-Horne (Arthur), his daughter, Brenda Patricia "Tricia" (Curtis) Sawyer; two sons Stanley Bernard (Roberta) Cureton, Kevin Lawarren (Christal) McDuffie, grandchildren, Stan Steele; Kevin Jr., Kashon and Keiaira McDuffie, great-grand daughter Kylie Brice and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
