James Edward Davis ( also known as Ed ), 71 of Charlotte, NC entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Atrium Health - University. He was born on June 28, 1950, to Frances Davis Cathey and Lindsay Lee Horton.

Ed was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. He attended West Charlotte High School and obtained his GED from Central Piedmont Community College. He retired from Xpedx in 2012.

Ed was a straightforward person who always spoke his mind and he was a very giving person. He would give you his last if you needed it. Ed loved to play golf with his brothers-in-law and friends. He also enjoyed listening to music, watching TV, reading, and playing cards.

Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Davis Cathey; nine uncles, John P. Davis, William E. Davis, Lonnie Davis, Jr., Joseph P. Davis, Jesse Davis, Charles J. Davis, Fred H. Davis, Albert Horton, and Alfred Horton; two aunts, Jennie Davis, and Bessie M. Foster; and two sisters, Eunice Cathey, and Mae Frances Cathey.

Left to cherish his memories are his father, Lindsay Lee Horton and stepmother, Eleanor Horton; a loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Jo Ann Davis; four sons, Antwon, Danny (Kykia), Darrell, and Sean (Netta); one aunt, Eva Corbett; one uncle, Melvin Horton; six brothers, Thomas Lewis Cathey, Stephen V. Horton (Sylvia), Stanley E. Horton (Iris), Lindsay J. Horton (Darien), Hiram Jackson, and Kevin Mitchell; three sisters, Thomasina Cathey, Linda D. Cunningham (Meredith), Tamala Ingram (Alvin); five brothers-in-law, Dennis (Mary Ann), Thomas (Sheryl), Larry (Sharon), Mike (Gwen), and George; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Rice and Jacqueline Rice; 17 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
