James Albert Davis, Jr., 72 of Charlotte, passed away on February 10, 2020 at Novant Health.  He was born on September 14, 1947 to the late James Albert Davis, Sr. and Elise White Davis in Charlotte, NC.

Known by all as "Pete," he grew up on the west side of Charlotte in the Double Oaks and University Park communities.  Pete attended Northwest Junior High and was a proud Lion, graduating from West Charlotte Senior High School in 1965.  After graduation, Pete went to barbering school and graduated from Modern Barber College in Winston-Salem, NC.

In October of 1966, he was drafted to serve in the Army, during the Vietnam War, where he served for two years with the 121st Assault Helicopter Company.  Returning from Vietnam in 1968, he worked briefly as a certified barber, until hired by Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he retried after 25 years.

He was an active member of Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee, a member of the choir and member of the Men's Council.  Pete was also a member of VFW Post #7775.  After retiring, he continued many years of serving his church and his community.

Pete never met a stranger.  Despite health challenges, he was always full of life - he cut jokes, loved gadgets, and enjoyed traveling an fishing.  Everyone who knew him knows he was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and a loyal alumnus to the West Charlotte Class of '65.

Pete is survived by his mother, Elsie White Davis; his children, Demetrice Benton (Timothy), Marius Davis (Patricia), and Shane Jack (Tomond); his brother, Carlton Davis; his grandchildren, Timothy Benton Jr., Demetree Benton, and Laila Davis; great grandchildren, Nevaeh Mone, Timiya A'Miracle, and Timothy James Adonis; and his best friend and "brother" Lester V. Grier, cousins, friends, and West Charlotte classmates.
