Mr. James Edward Johnson, 77 of Charlotte, passed away Tuesday December 10, 2019 at Veterans Hospital in Salisbury, NC. He was the son of the late James Johnson and Annie Ree McCorkle Johnson and was born in Mecklenburg County.
Mr. Johnson received his education from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and graduated from Second Ward High School. He served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969 where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Metal with two bronze stars. "Uncle Billy," as he was affectionately called by his nieces and nephews, was known for his passion to cook and for his famous pistachio pound cake. He never met a stranger and enjoyed conversing with people from all walks of life.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by all of his siblings: sisters, Marilyn D. Johnson and Joann P. Coleman and brothers, Johnny C. Johnson and Robert R. Johnson.
He is survived by half-sister, Wanda Johnson; god sister, Doris Dennis; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
