James Edward Martin, 78 of Charlotte, transitioned to his heavenly home on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Atrium Health-Mercy. He was born J.E. Martin, to the late J.T. & Lela Martin on July 30, 1944 in Anderson, SC. He later moved to Charlotte, NC and graduated from York High School. James was known by many endearing names. Some called him "The Lance Man", "Jay", "Jake", "Pop", "Brother", "Martin", "Unc", "Slim", "Pa-Pa", "Paw Paw", "Joe" and ONE called him "Husband".
James was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Catherine Cherry and Pamela Knox; brothers, Frank Martin and Fred Martin; and son, Dameion L. Turner.
James was united in marriage to Cornelia Faye Martin, former spouse, during this marriage two sons were born, Dexter L. Turner and Dameion L. Turner. He retired from Lance Corporation after 20 plus years of service.
James was an active member of Progressive Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC until his health declined. He served as a member of the Men's Choir, faithful participant of the Saturday Men's Breakfast and the Hymn Choir where he was Sergeant-at-Arms. He enjoyed traveling, playing checkers, golfing, dancing, taking pictures and spending time with his family. James has a heart of GOLD because he was willing to help anyone, especially the young men that crosse his path.
James leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 18 years Claudia W. Martin, Charlotte, NC; son, Dexter L. Turner, Charlotte, NC; step-daughter, Linda D. Alexander, Winnsboro, SC; granddaughter, Da'Moni N. Turner, Charlotte, NC; two grandsons, James D. Williams (reared in the home) and Jarvis D. Alexander, Winnsboro, SC; great-grandson, Jayce D. Mattox, GA; godson, Trenton Mack, Charlotte, NC; brother, Robert Archie (Carla), Fayetteville, NC; six sister-in-laws, Catherine Martin, Mae Bell Martin, and Debora Troy (Robert), Charlotte, NC; Joyce E. Williams and Brenda Ginyard (Bishop David), Winnsboro, SC; Ivy Randolph (James), Hopkin, SC; two brother-in-laws, Carl Williams (Phebbie), Graniteville, SC and Richard Knox, High Point, NC; special son, Kenneth Dawson; friend for life, Cindy Fulwood and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
