James McCorkle, 72, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2026 at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC.
James McCorkle transitioned on Saturday, April 18th. at his home. Both he and his twin brother Johnny were born on August 16, 1953. Their parents were the late Leo J.T. McCorkle and Sarah Lee Johnson McCorkle. James grew up in Gaston County, where he attended school. Later, his family moved to Charlotte. He worked as a construction laborer for over fifty years.
He was an avid fisherman. Whenever he got a chance to fish, he was happy. Being at the water, catching fish was what he loved to do! Watching television was another favorite. He especially enjoyed watching wrestling and westerns. If there was a game of spades being played, James was sure to be at the table!
James loved his family! He didn’t mind helping family or friends. If you stopped by his house, he’d be helping his sister Deb with work around the house. Cutting a neighbor’s grass or helping a family member move, if needed, he was there! He was the funny one at family gatherings. He was “that special uncle”, loved by nieces and nephews because of his humorous personality.
In addition to his parents and twin brother Johnny, James was preceded in death by brothers Jimmy, Nathaniel, Lewis {Tommy}, and Perry McCorkle. sisters -Edna McCorkle and Doris Coxton. brother-in-law Benjamin Coxton and John McCorkle, sister-in-law DeVonne McCorkle, nephews Albert McCorkle, Jonathan McCorkle, William McCorkle {Priest} and Devon Joseph.
As we celebrate James today, we give thanks to God for his life, the times we shared with him, and the memories we will always have. May the Lord give comfort and strength to his daughter, Tanisha Alexander {Earl} Three grandchildren, Joseph, Alexis and Tria, sister Debra Neal {Tim} brother Bobby {Roxie} Two Aunts Eliza Gibson and Ella of Stanley County, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and long-time friend Bill Champman, whom he worked with for many years.
