Mr. James Edward "Jimmy" Neal, 80, formerly of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 28, 2022 after battling a lengthy illness.  Jimmy was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to Helen Perry and Willie A. Neal.  He was predeceased by his son, Rami Amin Neal and brothers, Herman Perry, Jr. and Willie Rufus Perry.

Jimmy was very intelligent.  He was an honor student and graduate of West Charlotte High School, Class of 1960.  He later served in both the United States Navy and the Air Force.  While in the Air Force, Jimmy served with the 11th Strategic Aerospace Wing at Altus Air Force Base, Oklahoma.  He trained extensively and received several accolades for his service.  Jimmy's Commander described him as "commendable", "versatile" and having "outstanding initiative" and "excellence" in his work ethic.  After his time in the Military, Jimmy returned to Charlotte and worked as a courier for several companies in the area.

Jimmy had an avid love for golf and although he was seldom able to play, he enjoyed serving as a caddy and watching golf tournaments on television.  He was a history buff and appreciated the PBS Channel with it documentaries and war stories.  Jimmy loved his family but being a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren brought him special joy.  After Jimmy became ill, he was cared for by his life partner of 30 years, Renita Lindsay.

In addition to Renita, his is survived by his son, El-Fatih Jamal Neal and daughter, Krystal Gayle Neal. Grandchildren: Kayla Alicia Wuor, Kuhshaun Monty Baker, Kimber Avery Jo Henderson, Kaleb Michael Johnson, and King Marshall Cathey.  Sisters: Rev. Sylvia Y. Perry, Doris P. Boyd and Lydia N. Riley (Vincent).  Brothers: Maurice Neal, Earl Quincy Perry and Halphonso Perry.  Aunt and Uncles: Irene N. Lowry, Ernest Neal and Cecil L. Neal; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.
