Elder James Samuel Powers, son of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Shaw Powers and Mr. Willie Powers Sr., was born February 26, 1948 in Whiteville, NC. he departed this life on March 9, 2021.
He was converted at an early age and joined Antioch Holiness Church. During his time at Antioch a group was formed with James, his brother Willie and two sisters from the Elps family. They were called "The Singing Cousins". The group was very popular. They performed at a Shirley Caesar concert as an opening act.
In his later years, he moved to Charlotte, NC. He was employed at Charlotte Douglas Airport. He continued his life in the church. He joined Blessed Assurance Church in Rock Hill, SC. He was ordained as a Minister in March 2015. He also became the choir director. He was very devoted to the church.
He retired but he became restless and returned to work as a driver for Prime Flight.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a sister, Linda Darnell Nichols of Charlotte, NC, two brothers, Mr. Thomas Powers of Loganville, GA and Mr. Willie Powers Jr. of Whiteville, NC, one sister in law Mrs. Waynona Rene Powers, one aunt and uncle, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
