Obituary

James Wellington Riley, 60, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

James Wellington Riley was born October 23, 1964, in New Hanover County, North Carolina to the late James Preston Riley and Doris Elizabeth Riley (Barber).

A proud graduate of West Mecklenburg High School, Class of 1983, James went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps. During his service, he earned multiple decorations, including the Sharpshooter (Rifle) Badge, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal. He also became a certified baker, a skill that reflected his creativity and dedication. After four years of faithful service, James received an honorable discharge and transitioned back to civilian life.

On March 17, 1997, James began his long career with Max Daetwyler Corp. in Huntersville, NC, where he served as the Production Planner for the Doctor Blade Department. His hard work, loyalty, and commitment played an important role in the success of the company. James remained a valued member of the team until February 24, 2023, when he resigned due to health concerns.

Outside of work, James lived a full and joyful life. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gaming, and had a passion for science fiction movies. He also loved the excitement of playing in the North Carolina Lottery and visiting Two Kings Casino on Kings Mountain, always hopeful of that big win.

James was preceded in death by his parents, James Preston Riley and Doris Elizabeth Riley (Barber); his brother, Bradford C. Riley; his sister, Kimberly R. Riley Foster; and the family's beloved dog, Bella.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his two sons, Frederick C. Montgomery and John Preston Riley; his sister, Ave Green; and his grandson, Zion L. Martinez, his brother-in-law, Jeffery L. Foster; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends.  who brought great joy to his life.

James will be remembered for his strength, his service, his kind spirit, and the love he shared with his family. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
