Mr. James Willie Cook, Sr. was born on May 9, 1955 to Willie Edward Cook and Emma Jones in Winnsboro, South Carolina. James had four siblings, Mary Ann Cook, William Rufus Cook, Anne Lee Cook and Anita Gayle Cook. His parents, Mary Ann and William preceded him in death.

Between 1972 and 1974, the family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. After moving to Charlotte, James became a dad to two children of his own, James Willie Cook, Jr. and Jackie James Cook. He raised his children to be the best they could be in adversity and obstacles while living modest lives. James worked as a dishwasher for Fenwick's Restaurant and Novant Hospital.

Mr. Cook loved God, bible study, his children, family, Dr. Pepper, cookies, Burger King, bowling, basketball, wrestling, walking and crossword puzzles. He was a devoted Christian who showed his faith and devotion to God in all of his life. During his lifetime, James became an evangelist, ministering his love for the word to different churches along the way.  When you would meet him, he would always tell you he loves God, which he loves his children, to never give up and he was always pushing to the very end.

Although Mr. Cook did not earn a high school diploma, that never stopped him from being the best person he could be to anyone who was around him or knew anything about him. After fighting obstacles of sickness for almost two decades, pushing to the very end each and every day, James was always ready to meet God and he had no hesitation to tell you about it.

Mr. Cook entered Five Oaks Manor Nursing Home in the spring of 2022. While fighting prostate cancer and a brain tumor, he still kept going. He never gave up! Everyone loved him there. They even gave him a nickname, "Hall Monitor." Although he fought and held on for so long, knowing that he is loved by us here, God was ready for his soldier to return home.

On March 2, 2023, James' battle on earth was over, peacefully leaving in his sleep.

James is survived by his sons, James Willie Cook, Jr. and Jackie James Cook and his nephew, Damion Cook. He is joining his father, mother, sister and brother who are in heaven, as well.

James, the family will miss you dearly each and every day. Thank you for all that you have done for us. Your efforts, determination, motivation, teaching about God and your prayers made us better and it showed throughout. Your imprint will always be here. We love you so much! We will see you again!
