Mr. James DaShawn Williams, 30 of Charlotte, NC departed this life on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
James DaShawn Williams was born to Linda D. Williams and Ernest J. Squirewell on August 1, 1992, in Charlotte, North Carolina. James transitioned to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
James started daycare at University Park Childcare, then later attended school in the Fairfield County School District and later moved back to Charlotte where he graduated from Harding University High School. He attended Louisburg College and transferred to Voorhees to graduate with a bachelor's degree in science and sports management. James had a passion for playing basketball.
James was an active member of Progressive Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. He had a passion for music. He learned at an early age to play the tambourine and later advanced to the bungalow drum and regular drums. He traveled with his stick to every church he attended with his Nana and Papa. He didn't mind asking if he could play when there was not a drummer. He loved his deacons and each one played a major part in his life.
James had a 'Heart of Gold' and never met a stranger. He was known by many and often referred to as "Little James," "Semaj" (his Louisburg Family), and "BJ" (his Vorhees Family). He loved spending time with family and friends. James did not mind lending a helping hand to others. He had a smile that would light up the room and always was the life of the party.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful life his "Mama" and "NaNa,", Claudia M. Williams-Martin, whom he resided with; his mother, Linda D. Williams Alexander of Winnsboro, SC; his father, Ernest Squirewell (Sandy) of West Columbia, SC; his son, Jayce D. Mattox of Conley, GA; two brothers, Jarvis D. Alexander of Winnsboro, SC and Xavier Squirewell of West Columbia, SC; four uncles, Kenneth Dawson of Hartsville, SC, Dexter Turner of Charlotte, NC, Walter Brice (Tracey of Rock Hill, SC, and Earl Johnson (Sandra) of Charlotte, NC; three aunts, Patricia Byers of Rock Hill, SC, Karen Peoples (Odell) of Charlotte, NC, and Shelia Outing (James) of Charlotte, NC; one great-uncle Carl Williams (Phebbie) of Graniteville, SC; four great-aunts, Joyce E. Williams of Winsboro, SC, Ivy Randolph (James) of Hopkins, SC, Brenda Ginyard (Bishop David) of Winsboro SC, Debora Troy (Robert) of Charlotte, NC; one nephew, Xavier Squirewell, Jr. of West Columbia, SC; a cousin often thought of as sister and brother, Da'Moni Turner; a special brother, Marvin Goodman of Georgia; a special sister, Patrice Weldon of Charlotte, NC; godmother, Debra Ann McDaniel of Winnsboro, SC; two goddaughters, Piper Grier and Javaria Williams; a special friend Javias Williams; and a host of other family and friends who loved James dearly.
James was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Walter Brice; maternal grandfather "PaPa" James E. Martin; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Squirewell.
