Jane Thompson Cepero was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 20, 1925 to parents Lillian Barber and Otis Thompson. They produced six children and Jane was the eldest child. She lived in the South until she was a teenager and moved to Harlem, New York City.

As a young woman she was introduced to the arts and loved Broadway shows, museums, concerts and botanical gardens. She has left this rich legacy to her family.

Jane married Henry Cepero on June 19, 1948. They had two beautiful daughters and lived in Brooklyn, New York. During her children's formative years, Jane was the ultimate homemaker and seamstress. Jane proudly walked in the Easter Parade with her family wearing beautiful dresses and coats she made for herself, her girls and youngest sister.

Jane had the desire to work. She had goals she wanted to achieve and for her family. After her children were older, around the early 60's, she worked in a factory in Brooklyn, NY. Her husband Henry who always doted on her would drive her to and from work in between his job. Mom was always impeccably dressed and she began to dress up a little when she went to work. After a while she noticed the mostly Italian and Jewish ladies, she worked with began to spruce up their image a bit. Mom's dear friend once wrote a note to Jane saying "she was a lady of grace like a swan".

Always striving to improve herself, Jane began to study for her GED in the early 70's. What an amazing accomplishment. Her daughters gifted her and their dad with a Caribbean trip to say well done Mom!

Jane worked many years for the City of New York as a social worker, in the office. Although challenging at times, Jane said she enjoyed her work and the relationships she developed over the years. At her retirement party, which was a luncheon cruise around the New York City harbor, her family was overjoyed with the outpouring of love for this sweet woman.

After her retirement Jane and her husband relocated to Atlanta, Georgia to Sandy Springs. They loved it and Jane achieved another accomplishment, getting her driver's license. Jane once again immersed herself in the arts until her husband passed and she relocated back to North Carolina to be near her daughter and son-in-law.

Jane was a strong and amazing woman to the very end of her days. She lived independently until 2019. Jane was a private person, but loved her family immensely. As her sister says "Jane with the soft voice" is in heaven with other family members singing and praising our Lord with a loud voice because she's home now.

Jane is survived by her beloved daughters, Saundra Wallace and Velma Hutchines, granddaughter, Adara Wallace, two great grandsons, Damien Davis and Christopher Vereen, her sister, Welenia Powell and brother-in-law Robert Powell, nephew Paris Mason, and niece Diane Thompson and a host of family and dear friends.
