Ms. Janet Susan Luke Mayela, affectionately known as "Jeannie" 60 of Charlotte, quietly entered into eternal rest on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Atrium Health-Mercy. She was born the eldest of the three daughters to the late Bill Hope and Emma Jane Luke on October 1, 1961, in Charlotte, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents, maternal grandparents-James Luke and Hassie Bunch Luke; aunt - Estella C. Stewart; uncles - James Thomas Luke and John Query Luke.
Janet accepted Christ and was baptized at the New Shiloh Baptist Church. At the church, she was a faithful supporter and served on the Usher Board until her health failed.
Janet received her formal education in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System attending Amay James Elementary, Smith Middle School and Olympic High School.
Her hobbies included: eating out (her favorite restaurant was Captain Steve's), playing bingo, spades, dominoes and taking trips to the beach. She also loved watching football, taking on the phone and cooking for her family and friends when her health allowed. Janet loved the Lord, her family and she loved life.
She leaves to cherish fond memories: four sons: Chad E. Luke (Tish) - Gastonia, NC, Jeremia L. Luke - Nashville, NC, Andetious D. Luke (Angela) - Albemarle, NC, Samuel L. Luke (Teressa) - Charlotte, NC; 29 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Katherine Luke, Susan Ann Luke - Charlotte, NC; Aunt Christine Gill Luke - Charlotte, NC; Faithful companion of over 20 years - Roy Stinson; Special friends - Valerie McGill, Doris Robinson and Charles Colvin; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Janet was a very caring and dedicated mother, sister and friend. Janet met no strangers. If you were in her presence, she was willing to help. She lived her life to make others feel special and loved if no one else would. She kept her faith no matter what the situation was, and she would always say if the lord's willing. Janet fought an amazing battle for years until the lord called her home.
