Janise Eileen Cannady Thompson, 77, of Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Janise was born in Paterson, New Jersey to parents, John Henry Cannady and Adelaide Cannady, on July 31, 1945.  This union was blessed with two children, Janise, and her brother, John Henry Cannady, Jr.  Her parents and brother all preceded Janise in death.

After her graduation from Harding High School in Bridgeport, CT, Class of 1963, Janise married Richard N. Thompson.  This union blessed Janise with two daughters, Renee (Ronmichael) Arrington and Tracy Thompson.

Janise began her career in the banking industry, becoming the first black teller with Connecticut National Bank.  She would continue to thrive in the banking industry, becoming Branch Manager and building her business acumen in Human Resources and other positions of authority.  Janise strategically moved to the District of Columbia area to secure a management position with the Department of Commerce, where she retired.

Janise had a spirit of benevolence, giving even when it meant she would be without.  She had a special place in her heart for teenagers and young adults, sharing wisdom and guidance.  She assisted many youth with college applications and financial aid forms.  Janise was seen by many as the "go to" person.  Her wealth of knowledge was freely shared with others.

Retiring in Huntersville, NC, Janise joined Grace Covenant.  She was a regular at the Grace Senior Dinners, the Grace Sunday School class and Grace Women's classes.  She is remembered for her warm smile and kind words for everyone who crossed her path.

Janise is gone from this earth, but she will never be forgotten.  We are thankful that God allowed us to give her flowers while she was here on earth.  She leaves special memories with her daughters, Renee Arrington (Ronmichael) and Tracy Thompson; grandson, Ian Thompson; and a host of other family and friends.
