Jasper Haywood Cathey, 88 of Charlotte, went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2021 at Pelican at Randolph Road. He was born January 31, 1933 to the late John Spurgeon Cathey and Mattie Small Cathey.
Jasper received his education and graduated from Plato Price High School. He then served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1955. He worked and retired from Georgia Pacific after 29 years. He was also a charter bus driver. He joined Salem Missionary Baptist Church where he sang on the Musical Choir, was a member of the Usher Board, a Trustee, Bus Ministry, and Superintendent of the Sunday School. Later in life, Jasper joined Grace Memorial Baptist Church where he sang on the Hymn Choir, and served as a Trustee. He was a dedicated member of the church.
In addition to his parents, Jasper was preceded in death by one brother, Niles Cathey; three sons, James, Gary and Ronnie, all of Charlotte, NC; and one daughter, Veronica Cathey.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Thomasenia Cathey and one son, Travis Cathey, both of Charlotte, NC; two granddaughters, Kailyn Cathey of Charlotte, NC and Leah Cathey of Burlington, NC; one daughter, Shirley McCoy (William) of Charlotte, NC; mother-in-law, Mildred Sneed of Charlotte, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
