Rev. Jeremiah Robinson, Sr. of Mt. Holly, NC passed away Friday, January 5, 2018 at The Brian Center in Gastonia, NC. He was born August 24, 1924 in Elgin, SC to late Rev. B.R. & Elizabeth Robinson. Services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at New Zion Baptist Church in Charlotte at 1:00 p.m . with visitation beginning at 12:00. Interment will be held at Beatties Ford Memorial Garden.
Rev. Robinson retired from Union Carbide in Charlotte.
He was an avid singer and teacher of the " O ld H ymns of Zion" and Spirituals. He traveled throughout North & South Carolina teaching this art. Rev. Robinson once said "the spirituals and meter hymns seem to be a dying art, but through the joy of some of the elders in the church, they are being resurrected." He began teaching a younger generation the art of singing the meter hymns. He had an ear for music. H e always said : " you have to get the beat" before you start the song. Rev. Robinson held the position of choir leader until he was called into the ministry to preach the gospel.
Rev. Robinson was the first Pastor of First Mayfield Baptist Church i n Charlotte. After his father retired from New Zion Baptist, Rev. Robinson became Pastor Emeritus after his pastorate at New Zion for 19 years.
Rev. Robinson was a member of the Minister's Conference #2; treasurer of the Christian Ministers' Fellowship Association; third Vice President of the West Charlotte Lion's Club all of Charlotte. He was president of the North Mecklenburg Ministerial Assoc. of Huntersville; Vice-President of the Mt. Holly Ministerial Assoc.; Board Member of the Huntersville Hospital of Ministry ; President of the P.T.A.; and Secretary of the Friends of Black Children Council in Gaston County. He worked with the N.C. State Convention; a member of the Senior Citizens Federation Inc. of Henderson, NC; a member of the West Creek Park Assoc., a member of the Gaston County Senior Lunch Program in Mt. Holly.
