Ms. Joan Alexander, 84 of Charlotte, passed away on Wednesday May 22, 2019 at her residence.  Born on November 25, 1934, Joan was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church and began her medical career in 1966 working at Good Samaritan Hospital which was the first private hospital in North Carolina exclusively for the treatment of Charlotte black citizens in the Third Ward area.  In 1961, Good Samaritan Hospital ownership was passed on to the city and Charlotte Memorial Hospital, now currently known as Carolinas Medical Center.  For 42 years she was a medical servant of the highest God in her place of employment and her community which she was known as the "Nurse".

She is preceded in death by one daughter, Yvette Alexander and one son, Francisco Alexander.

She is survived and loved by her mother, Mrs. Millie Aikens who is 103 years old; daughters, Monique Alexander and Angela Alexander; son, Christopher Alexander; seven grandchildren, and 16 plus great-grandchildren.
