Joanna Grier Watt was born to the union of Joe & Dorothy Grier on September 14, 1943 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Joanna Grier Watt transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home in the evening hours of Resurrection Sunday, April 17, 2022, which has left a void within all of our hearts. Although to us her departing may have seemed untimely and caught us off guard we know that God is a God who does all things well and he never makes mistakes. It may appear to be untimely to us but on God's eyes it was perfect timing that out beloved "Sweetie" returned to him on Easter Sunday for her heavenly reward.
Joanna Grier Watt known as Sweetie by family and friends attended and graduated from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and went on to further her education at Johnson C. Smith University here in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Sweetie loved her family and loved being with family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed the family functions in the backyard. Sweetie would ask to go outside and outside is where you would find her greeting family and friends. She would sit for hours as she enjoyed the outdoors. She loved to play Bidwiz and we can't forget playing cards.
On Sundays you could find Sweetie cheering on her favorite NFL team, the Carolina Panthers, which she had a favorite passion for Cam Newton and took pride in her personal autograph Panthers jersey from him to her.
Sweetie's love for sports expanded beyond the Carolina Panthers. She had a favorite college sports team, the best college team there was in her time, the best college team there is and the best college team there will ever be; you guessed it: The Carolina Tarheels.
Sweetie's spirit and her presence her on earth is already missed but we are comforted in knowing that she is whole again, the things that she could not do here she can do in Heaven again.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Joe & Dorothy Grier, her husband Lester Watt, and her brother Sterling Grier.
Left to cherish her wonderful memories and continue to continue her legacy are her sons, Unrico Watt (June "Darlene"), Darryl Tatum Watt (Charlotte), and DeAngelo Watt (Joann), all of Charlotte, North Carolina. She also leaves to cherish her memories 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law, and a host of bonus children, bonus grands, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
