Mr. John Walter Maye Jr., 71, formerly of Charlotte NC departed this life on Friday, December 8, 2023 in Stockbridge, GA.
John Walter Maye, Jr., the eldest son of the late John Walter Maye, Sr. and Beatrice Carr Jones
Maye, was born January 10, 1952 in Greenville, North Carolina. He transitioned on December 8, 2023.
John graduated from C. M. Eppes High School and later earned a Bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T State University. Following in the footsteps of his parents who were both lifelong educators, he pursued a career in education. John earned two Master's degrees from East Carolina University in Counseling and Educational Administration.
John began his educational career as a Counselor in Montgomery County Schools. After a few years, he became Assistant Principal in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System at Albemarle Road Middle School and became a Principal at Wilson Middle School. He was also a Principal at A. L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC. He relocated to his hometown and became a Principal at J. H. Rose High School.
John was baptized at Sycamore Hill Baptist Church in Greenville, NC. As a youth, he participated on the Usher Board and in Sunday School. Later in life, he was ordained as a Deacon and taught Sunday School / Bible Study in many of the churches with which he was affiliated.
As a dedicated "Aggie", he was elected National President of the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association.
As a community servant, he worked at Phillips Brothers Funeral Home and Rountree Mortuary in Greenville. He was a professional in the way he conducted himself. John took great pride in his appearance, especially his dress attire. His goal was to be a role model to young men.
He loved reading the Bible, praying, and researching his family history. His oratorical skills were appreciated in churches and the community.
John is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Carmen (Corey), Aliesha (Myron), Kristen; three stepdaughters, Marcelyn, Meredith, Mariel; two grandchildren, Honor and Glorious; two goddaughters; sister, Mamie Ellene; a niece and two nephews; and a host of extended family, neighbors, colleagues, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Walter Sr. and Beatrice Carr Maye, and his second wife, Delores.
