Obituary

Mr. John D. Miller, 75, of Charlotte, NC departed this life on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Atrium Mercy.

John Dion Miller was born November 21, 1947, in Washington, DC, to the late John Lee and Annie Miller and entered eternal peace Thursday, July 27, 2023.

A recent member of Greater Providence Baptist Church trusting that God would help him as he took on caring for his loving wife and brother, acknowledging that it's never too late to give your life to God.

John attended Myers Street Elementary, Second Wark High School graduating 1966, both in Charlotte.  He attended Johnson C. Smith University 1967-68, and Central Piedmont Community College, 1970-71.  He joined the US Army and served 1968-70 with honorable discharge.  While in service, he trained at the Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Georgia and Non-commission Officer Academy.  His job was as an Army Infantry Clerk, serving with the 173rd Airborne Infantry Brigade in South Vietnam.  He received the bronze Vietnam Campaign Badge and President's Citation Para Troopers Wings.  He was elected student government president at CPCC 1972-73 and Who's Who in American Business College 1973-74.

John worked at ITE in Atlanta, Georgia, BF Goodrich, Ivey's, United Parcel in Charlotte, the Mendall Project as Community Organizer in Chicago, IL; Coordinator of student Veteran Summer Job Placement at CPCC in Charlotte; Assistant Supervisor at Better Cleaning Janitorial Service and 30+ years at Norfolk Southern Railroad as an engineer until retirement.

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his brothers, David, James, Jeffrey, Johnnie, Ronnie and Donnell Miller.

John leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 54 years, Lonnie Mae Miller; siblings, Trudy Miller-Green (Ronald), Annie "Baby Sister" Truesdale (Tracy), Greg and Robert Berry, all of Charlotte; sisters-in-law, Edna Williams, Esther Elder, Marian Hager; brother-in-law, Lycugus Oates (Joanne) of Charlotte; god-daughter, Kwashawn Barnett (Joseph), living in Dubai; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
