John Wesley Parks, devoted husband and father, was born on October 23, 1935 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the youngest of six children born to Arthur Lee and Mattie Billings Parks. Wes, as he was affectionately called, grew up in the historic Brooklyn neighborhood where he worshipped at Williams Tabernacle Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He attended public school and worked part-time with his father at Eckerd Drug Store until he enlisted in the armed services. Following his military service, Wesley returned to Eckerd Drug Store until he landed a job on the night shift at the Post Office.
John Wesley married his bride, Doris Hasty, in June 198 and soon found permanent employment at the Federal Reserve where he worked for thirty-five years.
He was well versed in the local and national politics of the day and was an avid golf enthusiast and skillful landscaper. Everybody admired the quality of the putting green he cultivated in his own backyard.
Well known for his outgoing and friendly nature, he never met a stranger. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and acquaintances. On Sundays, he looked forward to worshipping God with family and friends.
John Wesley leaves to cherish his memories; his wife Doris Hasty Parks; his son, John Wesley Parks, Jr. and a a host of family and friends.
