Obituary

Miss. Johnnie Mae Richardson, 95 of Charlotte, passed away on June 18, 2019 at Liberty Commons, Salisbury.  Johnnie Mae was born on January 27, 1924, in Charlotte, NC to the late Thomas Lee Richardson, Sr., and the late Eva Mae Richardson.  She was the second child and only daughter to this union.

Her brothers, Thomas Lee Richardson, Jr., Amos E. Richardson, James V. Richardson and William D. Richardson all preceded her in death.

She went to school in Mecklenburg County, graduating from West Charlotte High School.  After high school, she attended Johnson C. Smith University.  Later, she moved to New York where she lived for over 50 years.  She retired from the State of New York in 1990.  In February 2003, she moved back to Charlotte, North Carolina.

"Aunt Johnnie", as she was affectionally known, was reserved, yet feisty.  She loved to sing and was  in the choir at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church in New York for many years.  She was employed by the NY Department of Social Services until her retirement.  She enjoyed traveling and making surprise visits to family in Charlotte.

Left to cherish her memories are nephews, Gregory, Gerald, and David as well as nieces, Gail, Genise, Gwana, Doris and Phyllis; sister-in-law, Ona Richardson, 22 great nephews and nieces and numerous great-great nephews and nieces.  "Aunt Johnnie" who became our final family matriarch will be greatly missed and will forever be in our hears.
