Obituary

Jonathan Edward Mathewson, 46 of Charlotte, transitioned to glory on Monday, September 12, 2022.  He was born in Charlotte, North Carolina at Carolina Medical Center (Atrium) on August 2, 1976.

He leaves to mourn his father, David Edward Mathewson, Jr.; his mother, Vivian Wallace Mathewson; his sister, Jessica Alstean Mathewson; and his brother, Prentiss Terrell Scott (Rebecca); his aunts, Vera Wallace Lewers, Deloris Marie Wallace, Harriet Odell Fenderson, Alma Marie Cadet, Maggie Mathewson, and Alexis Palm Wallace; his uncles, Rev. Calvin Lewers, Oscar Allan Mathewson, Sr., Francis Earl Fenderson, Jr., Elbert Cadet, and Billy Herman Johnson; his cousins, Latoya Lewers Shoffner (Anthony), Shava Lewers Meadows (Maurice), Rashida Johnson, Sarah Grace Lewers, Margaret Harris (Donald), Oscar Mathewson, Jr. (Carol), Mitchell Mathewson, Michael Mathewson (Michelle), LaSonja Hardy (Latrone), Janeane Carter (Merlin), Lynnette Henry (Terrell), Francis Earl Fenderson, III (Marilyn), Jerry Elwood Fenderson, and Gregory Fenderson; and a host of other relatives, friends and memories.

Jonathan was a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, Charlotte, NC and North Carolina Central University, Durham, NC where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

He lived and worked in the Fort Washington, Maryland and Alexandria, Virginia area for many years where he worked as a Special Security Police Officer for Oakwood World Wide and The Wackenhut Corporation in the District of Columbia.  He later moved back to Charlotte, NC to be with his family.

Jon was baptized and grew up spiritually at Grier Heights Presbyterian Church, participating in all aspects of youth activities.  He remained faithful to God and His Word throughout his life by attending churches wherever he lived.

His family was very special to him and he continued to show love through phone calls, text messages, and visits.  Jonathan was a lover of sneakers and watches which he collected for many years.  He will truly be missed.  His smile, engaging laugh, polite manner (Yes Sir, Yes Ma'am), his genuine spirit and quiet demeanor, plus his loyalty to God and family were all evident in the way he carried himself.  He always ended his conversations with "Love You."  His sudden and unimaginable death is certainly evident of God's power over life and death.  We are not promised tomorrow but we are promised grace and mercy through our belief and love for Jesus Christ.  Mother, Daddy, Prentiss, and Jess's love will never end.  We will see you in Glory, Jon.  Stay Blessed as you transition to God's home.
