Joseph Davis Butler
10/15/1953—7/6/2023
Mr. Joseph Davis Butler passed away peacefully at Novant Hospital-Main after a brave battle with cancer that began last fall. He was born to the late Dr. Joseph L. Butler and Charlie Lucille Butler.
Joe was a Garinger High School graduate and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Johnson C. Smith University in 1976, where he was a member of the swim team. He later enjoyed playing as a speedy wide receiver for the CPCC and Fraternal Order of Police Club football teams.
He was an avid fisherman for decades.
After stints in retail and banking, Joe was employed with Duke Energy at McGuire Nuclear Station as a Radiation Protection Specialist. He retired in 2017 after 35+ years of service.
Joe is survived by Julia, his loving wife of over 40 years, as well as daughters Charlie Butler (Jalon Fisher) and Candace Wabibi (Ken). He was proud beyond measure of his grandchildren, Sage Fisher and Ezra Wabibi. He is also survived by his brother, Owen Butler as well as several cousins, a niece and nephews.
Joe was an extrovert and was highly thought of, and will be missed by a whole lot of people. Funeral service will be private and a public celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
