Obituary

Joseph Antonio "Tony" Roberson, 41 of Charlotte, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020. He was the son of Joseph Roberson and Jacqueline P. Jones.  He was born on June 4, 1979, in Charlotte.

He was a member of New Waves of Joy, where he served as the Choir Director.  Tony graduated from West Charlotte High School - Class of 1997, where he was the Drum Major for the Marching Lions, the senior class president and founder of K K Psi "step team."  Then the roads led him to Johnson C. Smith University (J.C.S.U.) - Class of 2000, where he majored in Mass Communications.  He was also the JCSU Drum Major for the International Institute of Sound (I.I.O.S.).  He was currently employed by Wells Fargo, previously employed with Amazon and contracted with the Carolina Panthers.

Antonio "The Director" Roberson affectionately know as Tony was the life of any party.  He loved to cook, dance, sing, step, act and had an amazing sense of humor in addition to being a fashionable dresser.  He had many passions, one being for the love of children.  He was in the process of starting a step team for high school teens; another highlight was his love for acting.  He played roles in many stage plays: Stuck, A Cry Out, My Grandmothers Prayed For Me and even made it to New York City.  Tony was a family person and though his presence and smile will be missed, he will live in our hearts forever.

Tony was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Earl Payne and his fraternal grandfather, Oregon Roberson, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories to his parents; Joseph (Venita) Roberson and Jacqueline (James) Jones; daughter, JaKari Roberson (York, South Carolina); five sisters, Stephanie (Quentin) Scott, Janice Wilson, Shawn Weathers, Jessica (Charmecia) Roberson, Judy Roberson (Lithia Springs, GA); one brother, Antonio Roberson; maternal grandmother, Ida Payne; fraternal grandmother, Mary J. Roberson; step-mother, Robin Roberson-McInnis; two nieces, Kiarra Roberson and SeAna Jenkins; three nephews, Rodgrick Frieson, Javarious Frieson and Cohen Roberson; two great nieces, two great nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

"I'm not gone, I'm here right beside you.  You can't see me but I'm here.

I'll never leave you."
