Mrs. Josephine T. Singleton, 73 of Charlotte, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at Atrium Health Cabarrus.  She was the daughter of the late Doc Morlan Thornwell and Mary M. Thornwell was born August 7, 1948 in Lancaster, SC.

She received her education in Lancaster County Schools.  At an early age she committed her life to following Christ and became a member of David Stand A.M.E. Zion Church and later joined joined East Stonewall A.M.E.Zion Church. She served faithfully as a Deaconess, Gospel Choir member, Kitchen Committee, Usher Board and Assistant Class Leader in the church.

She married Herbert Singleton and to this union one child was born.

She was sole proprietor of a childcare center for many years.  She retired 11 years ago.  She was deeply devoted to her family, church, community and friends; all of us will miss her.

She was preceded in death by two sisters Mrs. Jessie M. Witherspoon, Mrs. Mildred Crockett (George) all of Lancaster, SC and four brothers James Henry Thornwell, Sammie Thornwell, Charlie Thornwell, John Moore Thornwell all of Lancaster, SC and Abraham Thornwell of Buffalo, NY.

Those left to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Herbert Singleton; two daughters, Tokees D. Thornwell of Charlotte, NC and Soniah (Olawale) Odusipe of Knoxville, TN; two sisters, Mrs. Doris T. Witherspoon (Johnnie Ray), Mrs. Clara Hayden of Lancaster, SC; one brother Tommy (Beverly) Thornwell of Charlotte, NC; two brothers-in-law Clarence Witherspoon of Lancaster, SC; Henry (Pomzella) Singleton of Beaufort, SC; three sisters-in-law Jannie (Troy) Thornton of Hartford, CT; Lafreda (Stevenson) Doctor of Florence, SC, Edith Singleton of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren Destiny, Deja, Teohna, Abisola, Olabowale; three great grandchildren Nova, Alaina, Zaiden; a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
