Mrs. Joy Laverne Baugh Maxwell, 81 of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday November 17, 2019.  She was born in College Station/Little Rock Arkansas to the Late Charles Spencer Baugh and the late Annie Neyland Baugh.

Joy (Verne, Mema, Pidge, Joyous Occasion, Ma and Mama) as she was affectionately called, matriculated through the Little Rock Public School system.  She graduated from the last class of Dunbar High School in 1955.  She married the late Robert Boyce Maxwell of Charlotte, NC in Little Rock Arkansas and together they moved to Charlotte, NC to start their lives together.  From this union were born 4 sons: Vincent, Darryl (Odessa), Dexter (Sherry) and Sean Maxwell.  While working and raising her children, she continued her education and became a LPN nurse specializing in orthopedic.  She worked for Carolina Medical Center for 37 years until retiring in 2000.

Joy was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Department, Adult Sunday School, and The Senior Ministry.  She loved the senior ministry, the crafts, trips and studying the word of God.  She also loved shopping at second-hand stores, traveling and attending family reunions.  Joy loved her dog. Tank.  She enjoyed her retirement; it gave her the opportunity to take up swimming, weight lifting and piano lessons.  She loved her children, grandchildren, great grands and siblings.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings; Frank, Ulysses, Juanita, Charles and Lolita.

She leaves to cherish her memories her sons, siblings:  Octavia, Akbar (Debra), Lendy (Billy), Christine, Dwayne, and Diane.  6 Grandchildren: Anquanetta (Karlon), Ava (Jamon), Arkeitha (Gary), Darryl Jr., Kayla and Daniel.  8 great grand's and 4 great great grands's.  A host of nieces and nephews and a very very special friend Mr. Charles L. Patton.
