Obituary

Mrs. Juanita Zannett Phillips, 77 of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Novant Health- Presbyterian.  She was born on November 11, 1942 to the late Ester Spencer King and George Alex King in Martinsville, Virginia.  Along with five other siblings, she was raised in a country type environment.  After graduating from George Washington Carver High School, Juanita decided to relocate to New Rochelle, New York where  she was employed by Ilene Handbags.  While working as a seamstress at Ilene, she met James Edwards Phillips and later married him on May 20th, 1964.  They later relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina with their first-born child, and welcomed two additional girls while living in Charlotte.

Juanita became a member at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an Usher, Missionary, and community volunteer.  As a Missionary, she loved feeding the less fortunate during the summer months and looked forward to attending Sunday services and Bible Study weekly.  Her love for the Lord was very evident when visiting her home where you'd notice many religious figurines and scriptures.

Juanita attended Central Piedmont Community College where she obtained her Associate Degree in Applied Science.  Following her degree, Juanita worked as a Teacher Assistant at Windsor Park Elementary for over 20 years.  She accomplished many things, but the greatest joy of her life was family.  Her love for cooking and spending time with loved ones lit up her world when everyone was around.  On many occasions, you would find her preparing for Sunday dinners days in advance, and holidays became a big tradition in her family.  Juanita Phillips has made a huge impact on our lives and will truly missed.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Ester Spencer King and George Alex King; one sister, Rita King Stewart, and one brother, Ernest King.

She leaves to cherish her memories; Her husband of 55 years, James Edward Phillips of the home; one sister, Carolyn King Williams; two brothers, James King and Wali Fardan (Darleen); three daughters, Cynthia Monroe (Anthony), Casandra Phillips, K'Netha Davis (Ontario); five grandchildren, Anthony Phillips, Christopher Monroe (Brittoria), Ayanna Wofford, Terrell Monroe, and Marcus Goode; three great-grandchildren; Jaylen Phillips, Anthony Phillips, Jr., and Alexandria Monroe; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
