Judith Bridges, 72, of Charlotte, passed away on August 6, 2023, at Atrium Main.

Mrs. Judith Elaine Sweat Bridges, the proud daughter of the late James Thomas Sweat, Sr. and Julia Jefferson Sweat, was born on March 17, 1951, the second of five children. She exchanged her mortal body for immortality on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Atrium Health, Charlotte, NC.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Jimmy Franklin Bridges; a sister, Emma Cunningham and a brother, James Thomas Sweat, Jr.

Mrs. Bridges was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and was a 1969 graduate of West Charlotte Senior High School.

Judith was joined in Holy Matrimony to Jimmy Franklin Bridges on August 18, 1973, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC by Rev. Andrew Jackson Ryan.  It was a beautiful and loving union.

Mrs. Bridges was a conscientious and dedicated customer service representative for Duke Power (Duke Energy).  After more than 30 years of service, she retired.

She will always be remembered for her love of church and family.  Judith was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church until her health declined.  Her involvement included the Deaconess Board, Sunday School, Hymn Choir and Missionary Group.  Her unwavering faith and trust in God sustained her until God called her home.

Left to cherish fond memories are stepmother, Mary Lee Short Sweat; sister, Margaret Sweat Spears and a devoted and caring brother-in-law, Kenneth Spears; sister, Marsha Howze (Lewis); two brothers, Jarvis Tobias Short and William Lee Short, all of Charlotte; and four nieces, Tonya Harvey (Telvis), Amika T. Spears Clark, Shannetta Spears Bostick (Clay), and Julia Howze.  She also leaves great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
