Obituary

Julius Wayne Oliphant, 61 of Charlotte, passed away on July 2, 2019. He was born on March 9, 1958 in Charlotte, NC .

During his childhood, Julius was called "Pop" by his friends because he moved a slow pace.  Wayne, as he was called by most, graduated from Olympic High School.  He was a school bus driver, managing his high school academics, and his assigned route before and after school.  He was also a saxophonist in the Olympic High School band, participating in Charlotte's local Thanksgiving Day parades.

After high school, Wayne completed his journeyman certification studies at Carolina ACG/Central Piedmont Community College and in 1996, started working as a licensed electrician at several different companies.

Julius was baptized at a young age at First Baptist Church.  He rededicated his walk with the Lord at Community Outreach, where he served with the youth ministry and was ordained as a Deacon under the late Apostle Barbara Bruton-Campbell.  After leaving Community Outreach, he joined The River of Life Church Ministries.  Wayne was well-known as "a pillar of the church" for his loyalty and positivity, initially serving in the capacities of Armor Bearer, Sunday School Superintendent and Deacon.  Under the Apostolic guidance of Apostle Vertina Hunt, Wayne was ordained as a Elder in 2012 at River of Life Church Ministries.  His ministry didn't end at church because Wayne spread encouragements and testimonies to all whom GOD placed in his day.

Julius was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Everlene Oliphant; and brothers, Robert J. Oliphant, Jr. and Lafayette Oliphant.

He is survived by his sisters, Corrinna Horton (Sandy) of Boston, MA, Gloria Oliphand-Isles (Keith) of Charlotte, Roberta Riggsbee of Durham, NC, Sandra D. Cohen of Charlotte, and Melonie Fisher of Charlotte; and sisters-in-law, Geraldine Oliphant of Panama City, FL and Gwendolyn Oliphant of Charlotte.  He also leaves to mourn his loss his aunt, Minnie O. Wilson; special cousin/brother, George Pettice; and a host of nephews and nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces, great grand-nephews and great-grand-nieces and cousins, along with Trinity Morgan, his "grandbaby," his church family, and many friends.
