Obituary

Kenneth LeRoy Washington born August 30, 1948 peacefully slipped into the arms of Jesus on March 27, 2021 whom he loved and served.

He was preceded in death by his parents Luther and Dorothy Banks Washington Jr, Stepmother Sally Ann Washington; Grandparents William T and Pearl Banks Sr; his great-grandson Logan; Sisters Barbara and Alberta; Brothers Luther III, Wallace Washington, and stepbrother Randy Phillips.

He is survived by his wife Dianne C. Washington; daughter Yuwan (Nikki) Harper; stepsons Xavier (Keila) and Konata Pitts. Grandchildren T'Ana (Jeremy) , D'Monte (Rachael), Briana, MaKya and Ryan. Sisters: Doris W. Green, Angela W. Burton (Lee), Cynthia W. Sand (George); Brothers: Howard (Barbara); Larry, Donald Washington, Ruben Brown, Ronnie Washington (Peggy). Nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins, brother and sister in laws.

Kenneth affectionately known as Kenny was a Phenix High School graduate in his hometown of Hampton, VA. He received his Bachelor's degree from Troy University. Kenneth served with dignity, courage and valiantly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He retired at Fort Benning Army Base, Fort Benning, GA after 22 years as a Master Sergeant.  He loved to travel throughout the United States returning to Columbus, GA, where he met and married his wife Dianne Comer. Kenny was an ordained Deacon of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Kenneth loved mentoring the young men of Mt. Tabor and Columbus, steering them in the direction of college or the military to better their life. He and Diane helped establish "The Breakfast Club" in 2014 which serves and supports shelters and homes for women, men, and children with food and tangible items. After returning to Georgia Kenny had various employment which included Urban League of Columbus, Georgia. Kenny was a faithful volunteer of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children). His heart was to see every child placed in a loving, supportive home.
