Lamar Grier, 98, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at his residence in Charlotte, NC.

Mr. Lamar Grier, 98, of Charlotte, NC departed this life on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at his residence. Son of the late Sanders Grier and Annie Smith Grier; he is preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Grier; son Edward Grier; brothers Robert Grier, Roy Grier, Eugene Grier and sisters Macie Gabriel, and Myrtle Davis. He was married for 56 years and is survived by their daughter, Marjorie Grier, and a host of beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Lamar was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather whose life was rooted in faith, family and service to others. A dedicated member of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, he faithfully served his congregation and community for many years.

Lamar was born and raised in a little community, nestled in South West Charlotte, affectionately called "Dixie". He was proud of his roots and often reminded everyone, "I'm a country boy." Known for sharing the rich history and colorful stories of Dixie, Lamar captivated family and friends through his remarkable memory and gift for storytelling that reflected his deep love for the place he called home.

He loved reminiscing about being the youngest in his family, pointing out the spot between the trees and driveway where he grew up. Also, telling the story about how he, along with his father and brothers, built the home that became such an important part of his life.

Lamar dedicated many years to working in the horticulture, landscaping, window glazing, and carpentry industries. He was respected for his hard work, integrity, and commitment to his craft. Outside of work, he found great joy in woodworking, cooking, hunting, farming, and tending to his beautiful garden. Whether nurturing fruits, vegetables or flowers, his garden reflected the same patience, care and pride that he brought to every aspect of his life. You didn't get inside of his garden without a VIP pass! It became a place of peace and a source of happiness that he loved sharing with family and friends.

Above all, Lamar will be remembered as a faithful servant and loving man (with a perfectly picked afro). His wisdom, laughter, fresh garden produce, delicious breakfast, homemade sweet potato pies and buttermilk with cornbread will be deeply missed; but forever cherished.

His fierce independence, quiet strength, and steadfast loyalty to his faith and community will never be forgotten. Those cherished memories have left a permanent mark for generations, in the hearts of all who loved him.
