Larry Smith, a beloved, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at his son's residence. Larry Smith, son of the late Sammie and Beatrice Davis Smith, was born August 15, 1954, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Larry received his education at East Mecklenburg High School, graduating in 1973. He further pursued his studies at Central Piedmont Community College.

On August 31, 1980, he was united in marriage to Karen Bogle Smith. From this union, three sons were born, Garrett Ivey, Griffin Lawrence, and Grayson Christopher. He was the proud of father of Katishca Hood-Steele.

In Larry's early he was an active member of the United House of Pray for All People where he actively participated in the Youth Band and various church activities. Throughout his professional career, Larry made a significant impact on the community. In the early 1970s, he began working for the City of Charlotte and later served as a supervisor for the Mecklenburg County of Department of Social Services. In 1993, he took on a managerial role at the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS).

Larry's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Larry leaves behind his children his children, Katischa Hood Steele(Derrick), Garrett Ivey Smith (Samantha), Griffin Laurene Smith, Grayson Christopher Smith (Ebony). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Alonna Faith Smith, Isaiah Elijah Smith, Aliya Helen Smith, and De'Sean Steele. Larry found great joy in being a grandfather and cherished the moments spent with is precious grandchildren.

Larry leaves behind his siblings, Bertha Brewton (Calvin), Arnetta Geather, and Sammie Smith, Jr. Larry leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Sammie Smith, Sr. and mother, Beatrice Davis Smith. Larry had a passion for drag racing and cars. Finding the excitement and thrill in the world of motorsports. Larry's family will forever cherish the memories of his skills as a grill master, creating delicious meals and sharing quality times together. Larry's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever live on in the hears of those who wer fortunate enough to know him.
