Laura J. McCauley Thomas, 101 of Charlotte, entered into eternal life on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at Saturn Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was born in Anson County, North Carolina on February 15, 1920. After 101 years of living, loving and giving her family a strength beyond compare, Laura was the oldest of eight children of Herbert and Ollie McCauley.
Laura relocated from Anson County to Charlotte to continue her education in business school. While in Charlotte, she met the love of her life Samuel Thomas and the two were married in 1950. From their union, three sons were born, Samuel II, Lafayette and Ronald. In continuing her education, she pursued a nursing degree and became a licensed practical nurse. She also pursued a cosmetology degree and opened her own beauty shop. Laura worked as a private duty nurse and also worked at Wesleyan Nursing Home, while also having an illustrious career as a cosmetologist. Laura retired from her beauty shop in her later years and continued doing hair at home.
Laura was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Samuel Thomas Sr., her oldest son, Samuel Thomas II; her parents, Herbert and Ollie McCauley and her seven siblings.
She is survive by two sons, Lafayette Thomas and Ronald (Yvonne) Thomas Sr.; five grandchildren, Jamaal (Shon) Thomas, Andre Thomas, Taryn Thomas, Ronald Thomas II, and Terence (Raven) Thomas; two great-grandsons, Kirst Thomas and Jeremiah Thomas; two nieces and a nephew raised as her own children, Anthony Wilks, Prudence Wilks, and Krisonna Phillips; and finally, a host of loving nieces and nephews.
