Obituary

Lawrence Bernard Blake, aka "Don", was born in Jamaica Queens, New York, on the 20th day of February 1954. He embarked on a remarkable journey through life, navigating from NYC to Charlotte and Monroe expanding his family and meeting lifelong friends. Leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In his early years, Don served in the Navy and was blessed with the joy of parenthood and marriage. He proudly fathered six children who have inherited his quick wit, humor, love of music, and genuine loving spirit.

Don's vibrant personality was infectious to all who crossed his path. He exuded boundless energy, never standing still, and always ready to embrace life's adventures. His presence brought laughter and joy to every gathering, as he relished the company of his fiends and family. A true social butterfly, he never met a stranger, effortlessly weaving connections with everyone he met. Throughout his life, Don touched many lives and forged lasting friendships. Whether he was sharing stories of his good ole days, enjoying a lively family gathering, or dancing, with unbridled joy, Don's spirit shone brightly, leaving impression on all who shared those moments with him.

With heavy hearts, we announced his passing on July 25, 2023. Not because Don had not fallen down many times but because he always got back up. Let us remember his unique free spirit and ability to unapologetically be himself and enjoy his experience of life his way.

Preceded in death by his father Bernard Blake. He will forever live in the hearts of his mother Nettie Blake, his children Hasaan Coombs, Sena Shamwell, Nena El Bey, Meredith Williams, Desmond Clark, and Malikhy Lazier, Sister Bonita Reddick, Brother-in-law Rhoden Reddick, Jr., Niece Tawanna and Nephew Rasheem, great niece Shequan and great nephew Kani, along with a host of grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, cousins, family, friends, and extended family.
