Obituary

Lee Ann White, 103, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026, at her residence in Charlotte, NC.

Mrs. Lee Ann Ratliff White, daughter of the late Thomas Ratliff and Rosa Spencer Ratliff, was born on May 26, 1923, in Anson County, North Carolina.

Lee Ann, affectionately known as “Lee,” beloved mother, devoted grandmother, loving sister, amazing aunt, our beloved matriarch, the true jewel of our family and a great friend, peacefully completed her 103-year journey in this world on August 31, 2026, in the comfort of her home.

Lee was educated in the public schools of Anson County, NC. She graduated from Henry Grove High School in 1943. In 1946, she moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. Lee started her career at Charlotte Memorial Hospital. Now known as Atrium Health Carolina Medical Center, she worked in the Dietary Department as a Line Server.

Lee met the “Love of Her Life,” Clarence L. “Skip” White in the summer of 1947. They got married November 14, 1948. From their union, they raised two children. She continued working and later found employment as a Shipping Clerk Supervisor with Carolina Foods Bakery for 30 plus years, until her retirement.

Lee confessed Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and attended Centenary A.M.E. Zion Church in Lilesville, North Carolina. Later, she joined Nazareth Primitive Baptist Church in Charlotte, where she served on the Ladies Auxiliary, Mother Board and participated in Noon Day Bible Study. Lee loved the church where she found great joy and spiritual nourishment. Lee was a faithful member until her health started declining.

Lee’s longevity habits helped her live a century defined by grace, resilience, and unconditional love for her entire family. She loved getting phone calls or visits from family and friends. It gave her smiles, laughter, warm hugs and so much joy. Lee enjoyed preparing great Sunday dinners and Thanksgiving dinners for her family and all her grandchildren. Some of her favorite past time activities were word search puzzles, watching the soap opera General Hospital and discussing the episodes with a couple of her nieces. Her favorite punch-line was “I KNOW, I BEEN THROUGH ALL THAT BEFORE!” Lee was an avid sports fan. Her favorite teams were the Panthers, Lakers, Warriors, and the Hornets.

Throughout her 103 years, she witnessed the world change in unimaginable ways, and yet her core values never changed which were to: Honor God, Have Faith, Do the Right Thing and God Will Take Care of You. Love Your Family, Check On Them, Be Good To Each Other and Never Forget Your Family. Lee was the cornerstone of our family, anchoring us with her wisdom and warming us with her generous spirit.

Lee was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Mr. Clarence L “Skip” White, Sr.; a son, Clarence L “Bobby” White, Jr.; brothers, Fred Ratliff, T.C. Ratliff; sisters, Rosa Thomas Ratliff, Mae Frances Ellerby, Liza Jane Russell, Annie Belle Melton; sisters-in-law, Elise Davis, Laura Mae Ratliff; brothers-in-law, Eddie Williams, James Ellerby, John Russell, James Davis, and James Melton, Sr.; and great-granddaughter, Madison Thomas Hogan.
