Mrs. Leona Blackmon Kirkland, 88 of Charlotte, passed away on Sunday February 3, 2019 at her residence. She was born on June 29, 1930 in Lancaster, SC to the late Annie Mayhew.
Mrs. Leona Blackmon Kirkland attended the Lancaster County School System. After moving to Charlotte, NC she worked for Coca Cola, Chicken N Ribs, and Busy Bee. She later returned to Chicken N Ribs where she retired from. She was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church for over 40 years.
She was married for 44 years to the late Lester Kirkland. Mrs. Kirkland had close family members that she adored: one sister, Hattie Simmons; one son, Aaron Kirkland; Aaron C. Kirkland, and Daniel Baldwin, whom all preceded her in death.
Mrs. Leona Blackmon Kirkland leaves to cherish her memory; one special granddaughter and caretaker, Charlette Kirkland; a loving great-granddaugher and caretaker, Nishell Hoskins; three grandsons, Jeffery (Tonya) Moss, Terry Kirkland, and Tony Belton, all of Charlotte, NC; two God-grandchildren, Danyetta and Dondrake Baldwin, twenty great-grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; two special and long time friends; DeLois Miller and Mert Polk.
