Leroy Mullins, 94 of Charlotte, departed this life on Monday, July 25, 2022 at his residence.  He was born on April 29, 1928, to the late Bridge Mullins and Catherine Lewis Mullins in Marion County, Mullins, South Carolina.  Leroy was one of six children, all deceased, Clara Bethea, Albertine Gause, Nathaniel Mullins, Willie Bethel Mullins, Catherine Deloris Saunders and his jealous dog Jack.

Leroy accepted Christ at an early age at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Mullins, SC.  He graduated from Mullins High School in Mullins, SC, and then attended North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC.

After a few years, he and his long-time friends enlisted in the United States Army, where he served during the Korean War as a Staff Sargent.

In 1954, Leroy met and married Katie Gerald, "the little bare-footed country girl," as he always called her.  To this union, God blessed them with a beautiful family, three children.  Following his discharge from the army, Leroy and his lovely bride relocated with his family to Somerville, NJ.

Leroy spent the longevity of his career at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, New Jersey, serving many years, as coordinator of the quarterly bulletins.  His children often teased him for making them be his assembly line and not paying them!

Leroy also served in a leadership position, meeting and planning with Rev. C.H. Brown Jr. and Dr. DeForest Buster Soaries, as a member of the Trustee Board, the Scholarship Committee, and as Chruch Treasurer.  He helped with the planning and construction of the building, as well.  There are many wonderful memories there, such as the money tree for the annual building fund, and the footprints in the sidewalk.  As Treasurer, his name is included in the cornerstone of the building.  Leroy retired from Johns Manville in Manville, NJ.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Katie G. Mullins; two sons, Anthony L. Mullins Sr. (Sonja Mullins), and Nate Mullins (Sandra Mullins); one daughter; Cheryl D. Mullins; and three grandchildren, Tonicia Mullins, Anthony L. Mullins II, and Anthony N. Mullins; his godchildren, Diane Winston, Jocelyn Phillips, Erin Jackson, Tony Bolton; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and an abundance of family and friends.
