LeRoy Augustus Paige, Jr. "L.A." CHARLOTTE - Master musician, LeRoy Augustus "L. A." Paige, Jr., 73, of Charlotte died Wednesday evening, May 7, 2014. "L. A." was the son of the late LeRoy and Minnie Edwards Paige. Two sisters, Barbara Paige McLean and Freda Elaine Paige, preceded him in death. Recognized for his soulful saxophone sound, he performed with several well-known bands and musicians throughout his career including Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Otis Redding, John P. Kee, Conversation Piece and A Sign of the Times. He was also a member of the band that appeared in the movie "The Color Purple". He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of the home; son, Reginald Malker of Gastonia; son, Eric Malker (Joetta) of Yokosuka, Japan; son, Kunta Gregg (Ivy) of Charlotte; son Jamal Paige (Kelly) of Charlotte; daughter, Dana Reid (Jermaine) of Atlanta and daughter, Kimaka Hilliard, of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren and a host of loving relatives and friends. Family visitation will begin at 12:00 PM with Homegoing Celebration commencing at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Little Rock A. M. E. Zion Church, 401 N. Myers Street, Charlotte, NC.
