On a hot summer day, July 14, 1940, a baby boy was born to the union of George and Hattie White. They named him LeRoy Larry. He was the sixth child in the White Family. His parents and four siblings, George Jr., Leola, O.D. and Jesse, all preceded him in death.
LeRoy attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Northern High School. After graduation he joined the United States Army and stationed in Germany. Being raised in Christ-centered home and active in Sunshine Band and Purity Class in the Church of God In Christ, LeRoy decided to make Jesus his choice.
He accepted Christ under the pastorate of Superintendent Clifton Williams, at New Testament Church of God In Christ, in Detroit, Michigan. As a child, LeRoy always wanted to be a doctor. After his term in the Army, he attended and graduated from Saints Junior College, in Lexington, Mississippi in 1965, graduated from Meharry Medical in Nashville, Tennessee in 1969, and University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1970. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
LeRoy met the love of his life, Marion, while visiting with his sister, Doris. Marion was her next door neighbor. LeRoy and Marion married in 1971. Marion was the mother of two children, Michael Lee age eight, and Tracie Marie age five. Through their union, Nneka Leatrice and Shomari LaRoy was born. LeRoy applied to and was accepted to Howard University. After he graduated from Howard University, he relocated the family to Washington, D.C. in 1977, where he began practicing dentistry for the U.S. Government. After passing the dental board exam, he began working with Dr. Lorenzo McKinney. In 1995, Dr. LeRoy White started his own practice. The family was members of Refreshing Springs Church of God In Christ, where he served as an Elder and was appointed by Pastor A.D. Headen to oversee noonday prayer. This mantel of prayer was given to Dr. White as he prayed with his childhood Pastor Elder Clifton Williams, in Detroit, Michigan. In 1988, the Lord placed in his heart to begin a ministry, which was called New Testament Ministries C.O.G.I.C. The Vision was "To Build the Kingdom of God" and fulfill the New Testament by bringing forth the Five-Fold Ministry as stated in the scriptures: "And he gave some, apostles; some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:" Ephesians 4:11-12 KJV
Due to his illness, Dr. White retired in 2009, but he never retired from his prayer ministry. Many were taught through his gift of prayer to pray without ceasing. Dr. White went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 26, 2019.
He leave to cherish his ministry, his loving wife, Lady Marion A. White; his four children, Pastor Michael Lee Barnes (Sheila), Deacon Tracie Marie Barnes, Elder Nneka Leatrice Collins (Antjuan, Sr.), Pastor Shomari LaRoy White, Sr. (Jacque); his sister, Doris Lucille Hullum; twelve grandchildren, two-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, god-children; special friends, Bishop James Whitehead, Pastor Jerry Maxwell, Pastor Enoch Perry, III, Pastor Joseph Gray, Elder Jimmy Moss and Elder Ted Hines; and a host of friends, the Have Life Church Family and the True Believers of Church Family.
