For 75 years we embraced the unconditional love of God in the Son of the late Olin and Cora Lawrence Grier, Lester Vernard Grier, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on June 15, 1947. He departed this life at Atrium Health-Cabarrus on July 6, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
As a youth, Mr. Grier's religious roots began at Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church. He continued his service to Christ through membership at Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church. As an active member, he served on the Trustee Board, Usher Board, Men's Choir, and as a basketball coach. He was always willing to help anybody in the church that needed him, especially the youth.
Mr. Lester Grier attended the public schools of Mecklenburg County, including Plato Price and West Charlotte High School, class of 1965. He served in the United States Army for two years and was a Vietnam veteran. He went on to earn an associate degree in Business Administration from Central Piedmont Community College.
In 2003, he retired from the United States Postal Service, after working for thirty years. After retirement, he continued to work for Greater Mt. Sinai Baptist Church as head of maintenance. He enjoyed many activities such as gardening, attending church, cheering for favorite sports teams/athletes, and cruising in his vintage Corvette. His children were the apple of his eye, and he was especially proud of being a grandfather. He was able to find love again later in life. He married Delores Hayes on September 5, 2014, who was by his side until his death. Lester's family meant the world to him.
He leaves to celebrate the legacy of his life: his wife, Delores Grier; his daughter, La Shyondha (Joi) Berry; his son, Anthony Pratt (Rebecca); granddaughters, Jayden Buckley, and Ryan Pratt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
