Thank you for the fullness of her life on this earth, and now for her life eternal in your loving arms. Your peace releases Lettia from all earthly pain. We rejoice that she received her reward on Monday, May 24, 2021.
Ms. Lettia May Weeks, 84 of Charlotte, started her journey of life on November 18, 1936 in North Hampton, Virginia. The daughter of the late Arthur Stevens and Lillian Johnson, Lettia grew up and was educated in the Eastern Shore North Hampton Virginia school district.
As her life's journey continued, Lettia met and married William Weeks. From that union, she had three daughters, Dorine, Valerie and Selestine. At the conclusion of that union, Lettia moved to Brooklyn, NY where she met Joseph Williams, and had another daughter Mignon.
Lettia loved cooking, especially baking her homemade yeast rolls. She also enjoyed seafood. She was known for her exceptional clam fritters. She also made seasonal pumpkin fritters which was the delight of all who were blessed to partake of them.
Her love of cooking led her into a career of culinary and food services in Brooklyn, New York for many years.
Lettia eventually moved to Charlotte, North Carolina with her daughter Mignon where she worked in retail and also food service for the Mecklenburg County school system. She briefly moved to Somerset, New Jersey, and later retired to Hyattsville, Maryland.
In Hyattsville, Lettia had a community of extended family at her retirement residence Friendship Arms. She also had a loving church family at Frist Baptist Church in Hyattsville.
Lettia loved God and took great joy in serving as an usher and in church and in the ministry of hospitality under the late Pastor Perry A. Smith III and the current Pastor Durane T. Kay.
She continued serving until her health would no longer allow her to. At this point in her journey she returned to Charlotte, NC to live with her daughter, Mignon.
Lettia leaves to cherish her life, legacy and memory, her four daughters, Dorine Bailey (Cornelius), Valerie Cooper (George), Selestine Weeks and Mignon DaCosta (Manuel); eight grandchildren, Cornelius Bailey, Jr. (Kateri), Rodney Bailey (LaRhonda), Craig Faucette (Dawn), Melanie Faucette, Samantha Jarvis, James Jarvis, Marcus Jarvis, and Enrique DaCosta; and a host of great-great grandchildren and friends too numerous to name, but all loved and acknowledged.
Love and appreciation to special friends Mrs. Ruth Toney and Mrs. Renee Sandidge. The loving crew at Friendship Arms, Ms. Louise, Ms. Vivian, Ms. Drusilla, and the administrative office team that were a constant source of support, and the Hospice family at Hospice House of Union County.
